September & October Activities Abound In San Diego

With so many exciting activities, you will never be bored.

Looking for a much-needed escape from the daily grind this fall?  If so, there are plenty of nearby events to enjoy during stays at San Diego RV Resort late September through October.

From September 23-24, visitors can enjoy the 23rd Annual Pacific Islander Festival in Mission Bay.  Free to the public, this event showcases the cultures and customs of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia with entertainment, food, music and specialty crafts.

If you’re an aviation and/or military buff then be sure to check out the MCAS Miramar Air Show at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar from September 22-24.  Dubbed “A Salute to Vietnam Veterans”, this year’s show will feature countless civilian and historic military aircraft, performances by the Blue Angels, vendors, and so much more.  The Miramar Air Show is the largest military air show in the United States, with total annual attendance estimated at 700,000.

Most exciting for those traveling with the family is the fact that October is Kids Free San Diego!  According to the San Diego Tourism Authority, “During the month-long celebration, your little ones will be treated like royalty with free admission to attractions, meals on the house and tons of other great perks throughout the city. With over 100 offers and warm fall weather without summer crowds, big fun is in store for kids with savings that parents will love.”

The pandas are a popular sight to see at the Zoo.

The San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park, for example, are both offering free admission for children ages 3 to 11 and will feature a variety of special kid-themed events all month long!  SeaWorld San Diego will offer free breakfast with the orcas and dine with the orcas for kids ages 3 to 9 (with paid adult admission), as well as other great Kids Free activities. Meanwhile, the adults are certain to love the 43rd Annual La Mesa Oktoberfest, taking place from September 30 through October 2!  Since 1973, the La Mesa Oktoberfest has featured hundreds of exhibitors, family friendly activities, German food, music, dancing, games and, of course, beer.  Today, La Mesa Oktoberfest is the largest Oktoberfest celebration west of the Mississippi, boasting over 100,000 attendees annually.

While not as large as its La Mesa counterpart, visitors are sure to also enjoy the German American Societies of San Diego’s Oktoberfest event in El Cajon September 29-October 1 and October 6-8!

Finally, on October 29, Dia de los Muertos at Old Mission SLR offers individuals an opportunity to embrace Day of the Dead traditions, like chalk cemeteries, floral altars, native Oaxacan dances and other live entertainment, arts & crafts and more. No other Día de los Muertos celebration offers the overwhelming peacefulness you get as you celebrate in the ancestral cemetery of Old Mission.
